original mat lib collected from the community form here:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?252957-Cycles_Matlib-Beta-Release!-Help-Wanted!
Thanks to everyone for their help.
the mat lib is a little large & needs refining. you can add & remove your own materials too.
It contains a .blend file with all the materials as Fake User for appending.
Also included is an .xml file providing a categories list for ready to use in Matlibvx addon.
https://sites.google.com/site/aleonserra/home/scripts/matlib-vx
simply put the .blend & .xml, in the matlibvx folder, in addons folder & enable the addon & enjoy the presets.
Thanks a lot! It's gonna be quite useful for someone who's learning texturing, like me.
Hiya Meta-Androcto, I'm trying to import the materials but no joy so far (just getting into the blender). Any chance you could do a quick video or written tutorial please. There's no 'matlibvx' folder only 'matlib'. I've but categories.xml and material.blend in the 'matlib' folder overwriting the default matlib ones and enabled the addon. But upon pressing the categories only an empty black square pops up. Any help much appreciated. I'd also like to keep the matlib categories and presets, hoping they work ok with cycles? Peace
You stated to put the files in the matlibvx folder (if I do not have a matlibvx folder should I create one?) then put that folder in the addons folder???
Thanks alot for uploading, these will be very useful to me in studying how to get special material affects in cycles :)
that is a huge collection of textures , wow thanks for sharing mate :)
actually these arent textures they are Materials, so you dont need to unwrap your models, even if there are textures in the material they are procedural, this meens, you can adjust them an the also don't need unwrapping :)
Hey i used this on my rally car. Am i allowed to upload if i leave a link to this blend
I used this blend and gave you credit for the materials. If you want to see this it is here. http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/66863
this is a beautiful work but... it does not work with blender 2.66 :( that is very sad...
you need to append the materials from the .blend file
Try File> Append> Materials
What does this message mean:
OH HAI!
Looks like you're trying to use a download link more than once, which is not possible. Please go back, reload the page, and press the download button again for a fresh download link :)
These are some of best materials I have seen for two reasons, they are simple and they look fantastic. Plus instead of providing just one overly complex material that you may only use once in a while, you have included an assortment that can be used daily. I thank you for the time you put into this project and for sharing it with others, that says a lot about you as an artist. These are simply great!
Hi IM new to here and new to use blender also, could you show me how to add those material into blender system where i can use it along? thx!
Hi i have tried to add the matlib system from your link and copy this latest material into it, i can see the material name, but all the material does not work in blender 2.7 pls help, thx!
Hi meta andocto,
This is a very nice blend file. Very useful. It takes ages to make a blend file like this. Thank you very much for sharing. It saves a lot of work for many artists.
Best regards,
Paul
i think something is wrong with the file, the zip id only like 32.4kb and it wont unzip.
Muchas Gracias,,very nice collection to learn from,,thank you for your generous apportion.
Is there a quick way to view a sample of every material at once? So I can quickly see what all the materials look like with the name next to it.
You are insane man ! in a very good way. Very nice collection 10 star out of 10
Donsn't work for me when I enable the addon! Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I did copy the "matlib" folder into my addons folder.
After installing this; I suddenly am missing things in the Materials and Nodes functions. The button "Use Nodes" is no longer in the Properties Panel. Also when using "Add Node" (Shift+A); the "Shader Category is missing. So this means no BDSF shaders from scratch! Is anyone else having these troubles?
I am using 2.72b
Thanks so much for this! It saves so much time and these materials are really cool. I wish blender came loaded with these.
Dear Meta, I have tried repeatedly to download blender 2.49b super build ( yours ) from graphicall, and from blender.org/previousreleases I have python 3.3 installed for running blender 2.6 - 2.73a but also have python 2.6.6, 2.6.2, and I think 2.5 installed for blender 2.49b, 2.49a, 2.49, and 2.48. Now I run windows 7 sp1, 64 bit, AMD Athlon dual core, nvidia geforce 7800 gtx, 4GB RAM In every case after install I only get consol and then splash screen, and then all stops. What am I doing wrong?
Am I missing something? Are the image textures (e.g. Grass.png for earth_Mountains_2) abailable for download. The zip only contained the .blend and .xml files
Thanks :)
can't find a way to make this work with 2.7 - am i doing something wrong? can't locate in add ons in rreferences
Thanks, great, but the categories don't work with matlib-vx 5.6, I used a little python script based on matlib's sendmat.py and save_categories.py to fix the categories.
Hey is it possible access the OSL code for these shaders? Some of them seem to be made with custom nodes.
Is it possible for me to usethis materials in my 3d design and sell them or not ? :)
Blender material has been giving me headache for a long time. This blend serves me as both a library and a tutorial. Thanks!
May open source be with you
i am just starting out in blender this just want i need thank you so much
I'm having trouble - I am new though so i'm probably doing something wrong. The materials are installed and i can see them in the dropdown in matlib but they are all blank. Edit - Nevermind - It was just my Newbie-ness
