My version of the Gmod ponies for Blender, based on "Cheerilee's Gmod Ponies" package. Originals are licensed CC-BY and therefore re-uploaded legally. Improvements in my version include:
Version 3.0 (18-12-2012):
All ponies are rigged (apart from Luna and Celestia since they have different forms, will get to them later). Facial expressions can also be animated.
Old eyes replaced with deformed spheres, which allow pointing toward a specific look direction without changing form. The original eyes are also available on another layer.
Shared mesh data for all objects that use the same shape. This should reduce file / memory size and as well as make it easier to edit the ponies.
Pin vertex groups for manes and tails, allowing cloth simulation in animations (not for Luna and Celestia yet).
Subsurf all objects for higher quality, only visible at render time.
Version 3.1 (12-08-2013):
Rigged Celestia & Luna. Also give their mane and tail cloth pinning weights.
Reduced polygon count for excessively high-poly models.
Fix bones and weight paint errors in various places. Facial expressions are also much more flexible and configurable.
Bone constraints, to keep pose deformations within correct limits (disable if animating broken limbs).
Bone shapes (looks nicer and makes posing easier).
Default walk animation included (moves 1 blender unit per loop).
Optional freestyle configuration, allowing for original MLP-FiM lines and shading.
Thanks. Most of the work wasn't done by me though, I used a Blend posted by Cheerilee. I only rigged them and made the eyes possible to pose. The original is here: http://www.blendswap.com/blends/animals/cheerilees-gmod-ponies-blender-port/
Hello My name is Zackary Aaron Morland I'm trying to model a few characters for my next youtube videos and having a little trouble rigging them, if you would be so kind as to help me i will give you credit for helping rig in 3D Thank you ever so.
Zack
Yo what's up! Can you rig these up for xonotic (4 legged walking, not antropomorphic)?
Ponies!Ponies! (I hate them) But in this case I make an exception. :)
I have the meshes, but theres no color texture! And also, when I started to drag Clestia away from the other ponies, the base mesh came out, but the mane, horn, etc. stayed with the rest of the ponies. Please fix?
It has a lot of large textures packed, so it's possible you might not have enough RAM. Set the texture size limit to something like 512 in Preferences - System.
New version with many improvements, see release notes in description.
Would it be possible to have each model saved in a separate blend file? Even limiting the texture size to the minimum makes Blender run incredibly slow with so many textures in the one file.
You could create a new blend file and link/append specific pony models from the ponies.blend into this new blend. This way you get only the ponies you need.
Version 3.1 didden't work using blender's new cycles rendering engine.
I modified the file so it works in the cycles rendering engine and uploaded it as version 4.0. You can find it here: http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/70960
Sorry I didn't see this earlier. Thank you, I shall try them out! I was going to make a Cycles version myself, but the Internal -> Cycles material converter crashed because it saw missing textures, so I gave up at the time.
why are their eyes blank? all textures and rigging working fine except that their eyes are plain white (2spooke4me) plz help
I found this on some pony forum and it showed someone asking for a rigged version of the Cherilee's Gmod pony pack. I think this will do nicely. Better than what I was hoping for even. I was expecting just the mane six and Princess Celestia but, you have way more than that. This'll be fun!
I just wish they were actually rigged. I want the limbs to move as well.
Okay, now I've seen videos where people have used them. How do I move the limbs?!
make sure you have the bones selected..... then click the little box that says "object mode' and tuen it into "pose mode"
Your computer may have trouble loading all those polys. Try opening a new blend file and using shift+F1 to append an object from the pony file, so you can look at individual ponies and remove the subsurf if that might cause problems for you.
Thanks a ton for doing the blender conversion. That saved a lot of work for me.
I noticed an object called "old eyes" for at least the Luna and Celestia model which should be removed as they are not being used.
Unless anyone has any better suggestions, I was going to put shape keys on all hair/mane and on mouth shapes for easier lip-syncing.
After opening the file I also lowered the viewable subsurf on objects immediately after I opened the file, because I think a level 2 viewable subsurf on every mesh is a bit ridiculous, especially starting out with a good amount of meshes in the scene. Subsurf does not greatly improve every mesh it is given to, and just slows down the render process.
could I have the textures in .PNG form please? I can't get the .tif working properly in blender cycles.
I downloaded both Costache's Gmod Ponies and MirceaKitsune's Gmod Ponies from the Blend Swap website but am having some issues with appending them in Blender and importing them into the Unity game engine.
When I create a new Blender file and use the append function to choose the pony (objects) I want, the appended models do not have any textures (i.e. all grey) even though the source models are fully textured. May I know why this is so?
Also, when I import the ponies into Unity, they do not have any textures on them. They have solid colours, with white eyes (much like the "Solid" 3D view in Blender). The Blend Swap downloads did not include any external texture files so I am not sure what I can do to resolve this issue.
Ah, so the "all grey" issue in Blender happened because I wasn't using the 'Cycles Render' engine! I have switched to using cycles and the textures show up fine for my appended ponies now.
As for the Unity issue, I found out I could unpack the textures from within Blender and then manually apply them to my imported pony models in Unity.
Has anyone figured out how to use the walk animation included in this .blend file?
Thanks a lot for putting in the effort to setting these up in blender. Everything works perfectly. Tried exporting it to FBX and everything came out amazingly! The walk animation is as smooth as butter and is a nice addition.
How did you get the walk animation to work?
I exported the .blend file into the Unity engine and the walk animation seems to be missing.
Really sorry about the late reply, hadn't expected it.
The walk animation can be accessed in the dope sheet, simply set it to action and it's in the list of animations/actions.
I exported them as FBX 7.4 and the animations work just fine in Unity, though I'm using the old eyes as the lattice eyes seem to slip loose of the armature once in a while. I'm too lazy to figure out why...
Hello! No problem! Better late than never!
Thank you for that piece of information! :D
Thanks for rigging this up! Used it in a short animation. http://youtu.be/8GbDid5MOq4
Wow, these are fantastic! As a complete noob, they'll be pretty helpful for me to get used to Blender. Thanks a bunch:3
These are amazing. While I would like to view the whole set through the blend file, it crashes even though I set the texture limit to the lowest. So for now I must use the append option. Also it's too bad there are no male ponies.
what I would really love to see from this is more lip control, other than that these are very well done and rigged.
Dude, could you upload a zip with one blend file for each pony? Blender crashes or is incredibly lagy [ wich affects my PC perfomance BTW ] The ponies are cool! But i can't do anything with them 'cuz of that...
Lucky i have 8 GB RAM and yeah.................. By the way cool mesh dude.
Good job learning how to rigged mlp im having a hard time with mine.
is it possible you could do the cutie mark crusaders and babs? if not, I understand.
These models are beautiful! I'm curious if these can be used as a base MLP model to make unique original pony characters. ^^
The EULA says that you can use these commercially, but then says that you can't.
Could you please clarify which it is?
"This means that you can use it for any purpose you see fit, even commercially, as long as you respect these requirements:
--You MUST give credit to MirceaKitsune.
--THIS BLEND IS MARKED AS FAN ART YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE IT COMMERCIALLY.
I see I marked the blend as CC-BY, so as far as that goes it should adhere to this license. Blendswap takes extra precaution when marking submissions as fanart: You can use it however you want as far as I'm aware, as long as Hasbro doesn't feel you're misusing the ponies enough to sue you xD But I'm not an expert so I can't help more there, I'd ask someone who knows better about those things.
Thank you very much. Are these avatars possible to be used in VRchat? Also, with tons of help online and by watching a couple tutorials, I managed to make a pony that can work in VRchat. The hair physics are nonexistent, it has no tail and it's back hind legs don't move. But it works. If anybody would like to fix this avatar and what not? Have fun. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1STzH1dnVNK4gvCTkYHEEyCqixkT3zohp?usp=sharing
Thank you for this collection, it's great! I always tried to find exactly that! Worth mentioning that it needs to be open in older version of blender, then convert "blender internal" materials into cycles, and then open it into new versions of Blender.
I hate that I like the ponies >.< Seriously though, awesome of you to take the time to put the work into getting them into a .blend. I think they will be good models to start teaching my daughter some Blender with!
