There are a lot of earths floating around here at the minute, but none of them suited my licensing needs or practical needs, so I made my own and thought I'd share with everyone else.
I'm always wary about using anything but CC0 in projects like music videos and corporate films, as there's nowhere to credit the asset maker, so I usually avoid such things.
Anyway, the model. Simple sphere with a couple of earth textures provided by Nasa. I used the Blenderguru tutorial as a guide, but adapted it for Cycles:

I've now updated the model to show the lights on the dark side of the planet. Uses the compositor to mask out the light side of earth with the glossy indirect pass, meaning the lights have been added to an additional earth model on a separate layer. I've also moved the atmosphere to a separate layer so you can adjust it individually. With all these objects making up the earth, it could be a bit tricky to actually move/rotate it without missing something, so I've added an empty to control them all.
Hope this is useful to someone out there.
It would be ok in a traditional film situation, where I have room for credits, but a lot of the work I do simply doesn't have any room/place/time for giving such credit, making it difficult/impossible for me to use anything other than CC0. Toothbrush bristles is a bit much though ha ha.
Can't take too much credit for the model, used the layered sphere method Andrew Price used in his tutorial. Most of my work was making the Cycles shaders.
I'm the same. CC0 almost all my blendswap stuff. Just because I myself need CC0 stuff and to keep it simple for others.

Yeeaaahh, the textures are pretty big, you could scale them down if you're just after wide shots of the earth...
Really nice looking, but the two earths (day and night) seem to be competing with each other. I can't see how to achieve the nice blend between the two.

I've seen some of the most ridiculous blends with CCby. Like you I'm thinking do I really want to find room in my project to credit 'Tooth brush bristles by XYZ'. Not if I want to maintain a level of professionalism.
