Description:

I uploaded this once before but thanks to DaedalJS I have learned another great bit of information. I have reduced the size of the original upload which was 22 MB to one that is considerably, rediculously smaller (1 MB). I appreciate DaedaIJS's insights and help. Please feel free to use this blend. I can't use it for my novel so it's out there for anyone to use. The cross is in cycles which I must say once more is super incredible, I love cycles rendering and using my GPU as opposed to CPU has made all the difference. Thanks to everyone on this site for being helpful and generous. Hope to someday be able to return to favour and help out new comers to Blender.

You were asking how I got the celtic knots to come out as they did. Believe it or not it started as a plane, a flat surface that I extruded and rotated to form the basic pattern. Then I selected everything and extruded on the z axis. It took a bit to pull up and down on the parts that I wanted to appear above and below the subsequent line but it came out pretty well I think. I used a subsurf modifier (I think) or a multi-res to give it a smooth and organic appearance. Once I completed the pattern it was only a question of mirroring and placement on the bulk of the cross to give it that carved look.

Gotta check that out. Been trying to find a clean way of getting celtic-type patterns to look realistic. Good one.

It's a bit time consuming and believe me when I say this, I'm all about keeping it simple but once it's done it's pretty good. I don't like hurting my brain...lol

I just downloaded this, and it seems to work fine for me. Not sure why it isn't working for you. I would suggest maybe contacting Blendswap admin and see if they can sort out the issue you are having.
