You can open and close the gate moving the empty object to up and down on the Z axis.

This is a model of a automatic gate that you can find and some of the houses on Brazil, the mechanism is called as basculante, something like you can find on a dump truck.
I find some problems to limit location on the empyt object, some one could help me? I want to move de object but lock de moviment only on the Z axis, I tryed to set parent, but don't work.

Thank you, but I tryed it and doesn't work =/ I want to lock the empty b the Z axis, but still move it together to the gate. For exemple: If I select the empty I just can move it on Z axis, but if I select the gate and move the empty move together. I try parent but doesn't work too =? The empty still lock, and make a mess with the gate.
So you want to select the gate and move it along with the empty object such a way that this move in the z axis, eh? Let me try and I'll tell you. Long time I don't work with this kind of animation but I think that with only constraints (no armatures/bones at all) I can manage it. Regards.
Very good. I think you should do this: select the Empty objet, go to the properties panel and in the Rotation windows, click on padlocks of the x and y axis to lock those movements. This way the movement of the Empty will be only in the Z axis. Did it help?
