Inspired by this blend from Maxpath: The Impossible Triangle I didn't download the blend so can't be sure but I think I used a slightly different method to achieve the effect
I've created a thread for this on Blender Artists
Yes the orthographic camera and careful alignment parts are the same, I was thinking more of the way the join is hidden. I've just looked at your blend and where you have modified the shape so that no parts overlap I have kept everything as blocks but used a trick material where backfacing faces are transparent, then just flipped the normal on any faces I needed to see through.
Before deciding on the final look for the scene I experimented with a lot of materials so wanted to keep the uniform blocks. I deliberately avoided wireframes so as not to copy your version, The addition of the indentations to define the cubes was a late addition. The most trycky part was positioning the lights and objects so that the shadows didn't give the game away by showing the joins.
There must be loads of other things that can be done with the basic idea.
This is so very clever. Thank you for explaining it.
The way you have done the joins closely resembles the original concept of the Penrose Triangle. So thank you for the explanation of how you achieved it. The lighting is superb, too.
Aweeeessoome, i really like it, the colors really look realistic too. I took a quick look at the file, i do believe we used the same technique, fine tuning the camera angle to achieve the illusion, i don't know if you did anything more than that though c:
