hi, The foot rig is a famous way, is called 'Reverse foot'. There are a lot of this tutorial in Youtube,etc. The other part is a simple mechanism. If you learn the bone constraint, you will be able to rigging.

As for the modeling, in my opinion you should define the scapulas and belly button at least some. The topology has some minor issues but you did handle the poles and detail localization quite well.

The rig's fine and all, but the arms could use a little work I feel. They pose awkwardly and there's no IK option to them, like I've seen in other rigs. The facial rigging could be a little better too I feel, as the eyeballs can't move. And the lack of expressions (and customization of said expressions) also hampers the overall experience.
Still, not bad for a first attempt.
