Description:
Tartane is a sailing boat (with lateen sail) which first appeared in the 17th century. It can reach up to 25 meters long. It served mainly to trade and transport, but also for military purposes. It sailed from the French Mediterranean coast up to Genoa and even to North Africa. It disappear in the first half of the 20th century. Today few replicas still exist for yachting with most often gaff rigged sails easier to operate.
