Description:

A Mars Exploration Class rover, based on the Spirit and Opportunity rovers. It is a solar powered rover with two antennas and a drill arm. It has several cameras mounted on a rotating mast. It has six wheels on a specially designed mobility system that can respond to uneven ground for increased traction.

The rover model itself is 13,172 polygons. The various components are setup hierarchically so that they can be moved and rotated correctly for positioning and animating. The camera mast is split into two parts so it can be rotated left and right and up and down. The drill tool is split into 4 parts so it can bend, twist and swivel. And the wheels are setup so that the back wheels can twist independent of the front wheel.

I designed this model with freestyle rendering in mind so freestyle edges have been setup, but it can also be used with freestyle turned off.

I created this model and all of the textures myself. It was based on reference photos of the mars rovers but is not an exact reproduction, my version is a lot simpler. The textures for the solar panels and the wheels were created in Inkscape.

Feel free to use this model and modify it however you wish. If you use it, a shout out would be nice but is not necessary. I am a hobbyist modeler so I realize my models are not perfect, if you have any comments about how I could improve let me know.
