A high poly model of the MG-34 machine gun from the Second World War.
Thanks! Look into the pointiness value of the geometry node. It turns out to be extremely useful. Input the pointiness into a color ramp node to normalize it and use it as a mask. Check out the included shader to get an idea of what settings may work.
You should probably use vector maps to mix materials or use some texturing software like substance painter for example.
I used the pointiness value from the geometry node put into a color ramp node to get a mask the edges. Then I just made the edges lighter and more reflective using that mask. Nothing fancy was used, which is why the technique is pretty useful when trying to work fast.
Pretty darn nice! Amazing details. :) When I was in the (Norwegian)army some years ago, we used it's younger cousin MG-3 for practice sometimes. Doesn't look all that different actually, with only the MG-42 in-between..
great model! amazing work ! it'd be even more amazing if the different parts where left different objects for easier animation but that's just a tiny detail :)
Great. Thanks for sharing it with us :-)
