Written July 09, 2016There isn't anything funky in the material. Just four texture maps: Diffuse, Normal Map, Bump Map & a Specular Map. All are PNGs and they are all packed in the file.
There shouldn't be anything funky in the model and scene, either. It's just a regular, old Blender Ball that I copied from elsewhere on Blendswap.
The material is a Cycles material, not a Blender-Internal. The only other thing I can think of is that Blender is crashing from lack of memory. The image textures are somewhat sizeable. Approx. 35 MB, total.
Other than an out-of-memory problem or a problem with Cycles, I can't think of a reason why your Blender would crash.
If I think of something, I'll be sure to let you know.
If anybody else comes up with a reason, please let me know so that I can fix it and update the Blendfile.
