About the RIG: Use scale on the fingers to bend. Only IK is available for now.
About the shading and rendering: Super simple materials with toon shader and rampshaders. You can disable the ramp shaders and use multiple lights to achieve similar results. If you use this in other files remenber to look the render settings and mimic those on the other file. [Anti-Aliasing OFF, 128px or 256px resolution and Freestyle ON + settings] I also use orthographic camera here, but perspective also can work nice.
I will update this file when Blender 2.8 is released. :)
