Model of Tongkonan, Toraja Sadang people, Sulawesi, Indonesia, painted wood. Musee du Cinquantenaire (Brussels, Belgium). Made with CapturingReality.
Such models of native buildings have been made for foreigners. This represents a Tongkonan, a house where the precious objects of a Toraja family clan were kept and, at the same time, the center of discussions and rites. It is built on stilts, has the shape of a boat and is richly decorated with carved wood and paintings.
