Description:

Alright well I had to make a dog to go with my fire hydrant didn't I?

Based of "pluto"

paws could use some work, but they were out of view anyway :D

This is rigged, shape keys, and even has a basic expressions library.

rendered in octane

Thanks :D/ Possibly, maybe when I have less work to do haha. If you just learning grab some reference images and see what you come up with :D it will be good practice

Hey Darsim, if it's rendering too slow take the subsurf down to 1, it;s not a very high poly character, so it is likely your computer, The render above took about 30 seconds or so on my pc

Dang, when you said rigged I expected a full rig. But I guess I can work that out myself :(. But other than that I'm thinking on using him in a room project I've had going for a while now (Art purposes). Your name will be there if so ;). I need him to lay on the couch so I guess I could do a simple rig just for that. If I do use him I could email you a picture when it's final ;).

Ha, yeah I made this dog a REALLY long time ago, before I learned how to rig properly, but it wouldn't be hard to set up some controls for the bones and give him some better weight paints if you like :) I designed this rig around him lifting his paw up, and some basic movement, making him lie down will be a challenge without re-doing the weight painting. However smoothing out the weights under his body will help alot :) Feel free to use him as you wish, I'm always interested to see where my models end up :)

Yeah I'm rather new myself, been messing about Blender for several months now (Maybe a year now) so my project is good, but not perfect (I guess you can judge that haha) My rigging skills aren't that great but I guess I can work it out, still rather new to weight paint too but I've done it before. Like I said I don't need him for animation, just for art, I might not need to rig at all if possible ;). You can get a sample of the room at http://corwii.deviantart.com/art/Room014-306214139 (Still new to deviant art so idk if that's the right way to link) Don't mind the dog there, gonna switch him out for yours haha.

Cool stuff, love the old style room look, Have you tried using the cycles rendering engine? That gives really good lighting for scenes, another option is to add in some indirect lighting to get some bounce lights of objects, and make the wood floor a little more shiny, if you look at some images of wood floor you'll notice it has some subtle blurred reflections and specular highlights. That could really bring it to life. I actually quite like the little dog in the scene, it reminds me of 'courage the cowardly dog' in his old house :) But good work so far and keep it going, I'm interested to see where this project ends up :)

Hmm, never tried indirect lighting before. How would you recommend using it? I have a TV and the ceiling fan so should I make one of those or does it effect the whole scene? Lighting seems to be my failure, been trying to get correct lighting for the TV (right now it's a spot light with halo). Which kinda makes the room look bluish. I have no clue on how to get that TV glowing effect or if I should need it because of the ceiling fan light being on.

Also I've tried Cycles render but I just can't figure it out, it makes everything black. Someone told me you have to load the textures into it but I fail to see how haha. But yeah I like the dog, but my 3DS friend Chris was hinting around getting a new dog. I showed him your's and he likes it :). He's all about being realistic haha. But thank you for the info/ideas, I'm still learning a lot of new things so it really helps hearing from someone who's more experienced ;). I'll be searching for some tutorials on indirect lighting and Cycles render now haha :D.

Indirect lighting works over the whole scene, sorta blenders way of faking global illumination. It effectively bounces light of an object and lights up something next to it. Check out a cycles tutorial from blender cookie, some good ones there. It will be black because it needs some lights and shaders specific to cycles (blender internal materials don't work in cycles) Actually I'm not that experienced ;) I started 3d end of 2010, it's one of those things where your work gradually gets better over time. I definitely think cycles will improve your scene a lot, it is much more simple than BI and much faster.
