My result from the grass tutorial on the nature academy,
Includes all the grass settings, node setups, background mountain etc.
Does not include the background foliage and textures as I am unsure on the licenses.

Animation from this blend is in the first few seconds of my showreel
http://vimeo.com/28190492
Be wary this is 20Mb compressed 60Mb or so normal.
and no I'm not "promoting" myself or the nature academy, I simply can't be bothered rendering out just the animation of the grass for an example video.
Let me know if there is any other scenes from my reel you'd like to see on blendswap :D
C&C welcome
Your welcome, yup all in blender, the key to nature in blender is translucency(light shines through object), and area diffuse(global diffuse setting for grass)
Now that I know how, about ten minutes to set up plus tweaking. For cartoons use a cloudy texture for the grass plane, with some alpha mapped images of grass bunches in a particle system. this gives it a really cartoony feel. If your just starting check out some beginner tutorials on Blendercookie and Blenderguru, They will fast track your progress :D Blender is a fantastic program, when I started a year ago I could manage little more than "Epic Cubes" lol
Oh if your learning grass check out my tutorial on cool lens flares I have just uploaded, You might be able to use the effect You can see it here: http://metalix.co.nz/tutorials/blender/other/lens_flares/index.php
@Qzyxya Yes I use a lot of effects from video copilot in my work. and your welcome :D
@Metalix: If I examine the .blend to see how you do it, but don't actually use any of the file in my project, do I still have to license my project under the CC 3.0 BY license?
@Gallus you don't have to credit me even if you use it lol As you are using the technique, not the file you can license as you wish anyway. I'm happy for you to treat this as CC-0 :D
this appears to be a rar file on my pc. how to i put it in blender cuz it wont let me
Nickboy, you have to unrar it first, so find a program for you OS and unrar it, then you'll get a .blend file.
@metalix have you done the desert scene in the nature academy (chapter 11) right now I am really stuck with desert bushes, and the blend of that scene would be a big help. Could you please swap the blendfile of this scene? :)
Hi, I may upload in the next week if I have time, quite busy atm. However if you log into the nature academy and go to the tutorial, Andrew has a link to his original source file
thanks for the reply! :) I haven't participated in the nature academy, right now it's too expensive for me :( (Sorry forgot to write that.) I am stuck with desert bushes in my own scene, I tried with particle system (Hair) or modelling by hand, and it looked just ugly, so thats why I asked for your blend :)
Hi Andrew. Awesome stuff there! Could you please tell me how to get rid of the mist, just to see how the scene looks like without it? Thanks!
Can someone please help me out? I can't figure out how to append these blends into my blender project! How do you do it to get the entire blend into your project? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! :)

The date of the release is 2011. I fear some troubles with outdated technics.

The grass guide on slope nature academy seems very comprehensive and informative. I was particularly impressed with the level of detail in the button setup and background mountains. I was also happy to hear that the animation from this combination is included in your slideshow.

Hi Metalix,
Thanks for releasing this - since Andrew created the old grass tutorial I've been looking for an update for the 2.5 settings and techniques.
