Make sure that Color Management is still enabled in the Render Settings. The other reason it's dark is that I used Environment Lighting and removed the sky texture before packing. Nice model. Could you say something on how you set up the lighting in your render? Because when rendering the downloaded model it is pretty dark. This model could be awesome when using an image texture for the wood, though I understand your reasoning. I think the wheels would be made up by three planks.
