Maybe you should try Nvidia's Geforce TITAN GPU that just came out yesterday although it is $1000!

Just got a refurb HP Z600 with Dual Xeon X5650 2.66GHZ CPUs, 12 total cores. Running Windows 7 64bit and Blender version 2.74 Video card is an old and slow Quadro FX1800 and not supported for GPU rendering but CPU render time was 1 min 33 seconds with Hyper Threading off and 1 min 15 seconds with Hyper Threading on. Update Just added Nvidia GTX 960 to this PC and it took 67 seconds to finish
I have an i5 2320 quad core running 3.0ghz, 6GB ram with a GTX 680 running a triple monitor setup and it ran the GPU render in 1 min and 5 seconds.
mikepan, this is really great. What about low-poly modelling? Have you tried modelling car at around 10K polys? It'd be great to see such a work from you:)
