The primary focus of this project was to create realistic grass, weeds, and wild flowers.
The rest (fence, trees, sky, background trees, and rocks) are there just to make the field a bit more interesting.
The grasses are based roughly on an Andrew Price tutorial, but I've made significant modifications. The field is scattered with modeled buttercups and thistles. You can see the yellow buttercups OK, but the purple thistles are not that noticeable. If you want the flowers to stand out a bit more, then under the SHADING option of the MATERIALS tab, set the EMIT value to something like .1. This will cause them to become brighter and more visible. However, changing the lighting can have a significant effect on the brightness so you may have to adjust accordingly.
The split-rail fence is just something I put together quickly. You can make it more realistic by changing the displacement, color, and other features of different logs. The rock is nothing more than the rock model I uploaded to Blendswap a week or so ago. The trees are an early attempt before I started using sapling. They are not very realistic and only good for background.
The sky is a free jpg with no restrictions.
The fog in the background was made using the Mist function under the World tab. Mist is very sensitive to the control options. I finally figured out how to make a very soft low-ground haze in the background. I think it turned out fairly well.
This is an unfinished project. In the future, there will be an old log cabin or barn, some birds, more realistic trees, a more realistic fence, an old stump, and a more realistic mix of grass (there should be more dead grass and clumps of tall grass in a typical field).
I also intend to use this same scene to create fall and winter (or maybe late fall with frost) versions.
There are no restrictions using this blend file.
This is a large file, but there is a lot to the scene.
It takes about 4-5 minutes to render with a desktop computer that is about 3 years old (Windows 7 64 bit). Older computers or those with slow CPUs or RAM limitations will obviously take longer to render.
This is my fifth model since I started using blender. It's a steep learning curve for me.
Great Work! Keep it Up.
