This is a fairly detailed model of a fork (774 faces!). I've tried to make my own textures this time, (my last blend I used my reference photo in the texture!). Any criticism is welcome, I am still trying to learn - and will be for a long time!
Thank you for your comment, I am keeping my objects simple in the attempt learn to model them properly. I am also finding simple objects more complex the closer you look at them! I did mean that I painted the textures from scratch, the photo texture of the spoon did work better than I expected but has an important fallback. The specular highlights in the photo are always there regardless of the scene lighting, the spoon can look great on it's own but can clash with other objects in a scene. I plan to upload a different more complex version of the spoon with all the inlay modeled and a hand made texture.
I downloaded your FORK blend and it looks nice and clean. I think as long as your edge loops that control the subsurf modifier are where you need them, everything is good. One thing you might want to check out though is the Cycles Render Engine. So easy to get started and the end result blows away the Internal Render Engine. I uploaded a sample render to my Flickr account (only the second time I've used Cycles myself -so it could be better). http://www.flickr.com/photos/kevin_rocker_lake/6973042764/in/photostream/lightbox/
... I didn't use your texture for the handle for render because the UVs weren't setup.
Thanks for showing me your render, cycles seems to be very slow on my computer (which is very slow!). I have seen some beautiful renders from cycles but have not been able to do anything near myself.
I like your choice of objects to model. The spoon you did looks great and the texture makes it look even better. Your blurb on the fork says you made your own textures this time. I guess that means you painted them from scratch? If so, I don't think that using photos reference in your textures makes your efforts any less legit. Nice work.
