Description:

This is a rigged version of James Jackaman's (JIMBO45UK) excellent P-51 Mustang here on BlendSwap. To rig the plane, I had to separate the control surfaces and add the landing gear. I used the knife tool to prevent messing with James' textures. I also converted everything to Cycles materials.

Everything is rigged except the trim tabs. Rigged pieces include: the canopy, gear, ailerons, flaps, elevators, rudder, and tail wheel. Constraints are set on everything, and certain pieces are set to copy rotations (such as the right flap copies the rotation of the left flap), so if you want to animate this plane, animate from the left side because the right side follows the left. Aileron movement is inverted from right to left. Constraints are also set to prevent moving pieces too far.

This blend file only includes the plane and its rig, nothing else.

JZStudios, Remember that when you select the armature, you need to go into Pose Mode. You can do that by hitting Ctrl+Tab, or by going down to the mode menu (where Object Mode and Edit Mode are), hit the dropdown, and select Pose Mode from the options. As for the textures, if you go to the FIle menu at the top, then go down to External Data, there will be an option to "Unpack." If you select that, it will separate the textures into separate files, and the scene should render correctly. God Bless, north.star

:) thanks North.Star I will take a look at this it may be very useful to my project, if so I will definitely give you credit. I don.t use cycles so will have to convert back to BI texture materials but that should be no problem. I just find Cycles FAR too slow for animation projects. But thanks again for taking the time with this. I have some more planes in my project that I may want rigging. could you be up for it?

Definitely. It was certainly a learning experience for me. I actually never rigged anything successfully before this, but yes, I would definitely be willing to help in my spare time. I don't know how much spare time I'll have in September though because I'm going to start college again.

I do have to put a caveat though. I am extremely conservative, which means that I won't work on any material for a video that has swearing, immorality, graphic or excessive violence, drug use, etc. If your video won't have any of that, or anything like that, sure, I'll help. Otherwise, I am sorry. I really can't help. Good luck! God Bless, north.star

i figured out how to move the gear but when i move them they both move right instead of both of them moving inwards. How do i fix this?
