    Even after exporting the external data, I still could not get the render to produce the posted output using Blender 2.6.4 official build. I see the images in the image viewer, the nodes are connected...I wonder how to make this work?

    Because I use 2.64.9 build (See top page). Download the latest build from Graphicall and it will work
