Heya Blendswappers,
A demo reel of the project that I will share with you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=7U-SS8wIGaw
Here a little thing I would like to share with the community. A fully functional easy-to-use-and-animate machine I build for a schoolproject. The entire machine is controlled by 1 single object(the rest will follow with the constrains I added) so it's really easy to animate it since you only need 2 keyframes.
The machine is set-up for cycles render engine and I build-in a simple turntable animation for you to study the effect.
In the file you'll find further instructions.
Have fun! and please give credit if you plan on reusing this project.
A tutorial people requested on the constraints I used on this machine:
Blender 2.66 Gear rigging tutorial constraints and 1 machine controler.
And Another requested tutorial on the Pumpjack:
No problem, I am glad you enjoyed it :D Have fun with the model ;)
Wow, I would have said that, but it appears I'm too late! I found out about this when I saw the tutorial, not the other way around! :D
Yeah I'm new to this website.. well not new bu I didn't upload anything since the site changed. Seemed you have to insert links that go outside Blendswap in a different way. It all seems to work now. Thanks for the comment :)
Just copy and paste the link as displayed on the page. I'm going to have to have a close look at this. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for helping him out :) and thanks for the comment I fixed the link so it should all work properly now. Have fun Blendering! :D
This is brilliant all those moving parts that look like they are really doing something :)
I'll need to have a proper look at the way you've set up the animation when I get a chance.
Thanks, yeah I really wanted the machine to look like more then just a random collection of gears and pipes. in my mind all parts of the machine have their own use. you've got the pump obviously, then it goes into a pressurizer, next to a refinery and then it get pumped out of the machine using the big pipes :) Have fun with the model!
It is really fabulous. I'm going to be busy theses next days looking into your marvelous design. I appreciate your letting us sharing it.
Great model, I've fixed the video and also added to Staff Picks. Cheers!
No way! Thanks a lot, never thought it would make the staff picks... :P Thanks!
Great work. I've downloaded and will attempt to apply your control technique to a video I'm working on.
I wish you the best of luck with your project :) I am glad this can be of use to you
Very nice, looks like great fun to play with. lots to learn from this. thanks
If it's knowledge you seek, check out my youtube tutorials on the constraints, rig's and animation-tools used (see description for links) ;) I am glad you liked it :)
That's great, but do you know how to rig a V engine, where piston axes are not parallel to x,y or z? I haven't found any V-engine animated in Blender yet.
A V-engine would be rigged the same way as the pumpjack, but you should need to add an empty to control the angle the piston goes it it isn't straight along the x,y, or z axes. but limit it's location along the Z-axes of the empty and rotate the empty to the angle you need.
This was incredible! I havew been truly inspired to continue working with blender because if it. I had Maya in school, and I was slightly resistant to change, but the wonderful people like you and the folks at Blender have made me a convert. Your tutorials were fabulous. I watched them a few times. Now, I have to do something to top this. Won't be easy.
Thanks Again, Rome Bonno
Dear Rome Bonno, Thanks you so much for your story and compliment. It is very much appreciated. I myself will have to make the switch to Maya since I still have to start my digital education and the college I go to will use Maya as their software of choice XD so kinda ironic isn't it? :P I am glad my tutorials were of help to you and I wish you the best of luck and fun in future-blending.
Sincerely Ristridyn
Too cool. Thank you! Makes me want to texture it and export to Unity... I'll let you know if I do. Cheers
I am glad you liked it, and I would be very interested to see what projects you will undertake with this model. It's free to use just please give credit where its due. Have fun Blending!
Awesome, im making a pumpjack as a mod for farming sim 2013, this info has helped me some, but i still having trouble, lol
Awesome machine, awesome demo reel. Very professional looking.
Thank you for sharing.
