I made this Grass Render to admire the all mighty Blender Internal Render! It's a simple realistic grass plane but shows the power of not using Cycles.
Thanks chrisbreen1995! Made all from start to finish for internal render. Internal render will never die for me. I'll never stop using it!
You guys know that the internal engine is deprecated, right? It may even be dropped in the distant future.. http://dingto.org/?p=157
I'm such a fan of internal that i will stop updating my Blender version when i see it missing!
don't be afraid of Cycles, I'm sure most resistence to it, is resistence to just change, but it is pretty epic indeed, and it's not even finished yet. As Dingto says, they will likely add biased algorithms, which means you can get results of the Internal with Cycles in the future.
So you better start learning it now while it's not as vast, so you know the deal when it's ready for production ;)
THIS JUST IN: Cycles starting to get SSS: http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=47653
Yeah. I don't even really understand cycles (or how it's better). I'm an internal render guy.
Glad to see i'm not the only one on internal. Cycles is just a simplified version of internal.
Cycles produces much more realistic results in a simpler way. Since cycles uses a different algorithm to produce the lighting, its much easier to get a good setup. Internal is direct point lighting while cycles calculates the bounce of the lighting. As polfox said, dont be afraid of it. Its getting better every day and simpler to use.
Man I really hope this isn't true :((( I suppose I should take a look at learning to use it then
Even if it's true you will always be able go back to internal from newer versions.
we should make a petition for the internal render i basically grew up on it.
I'm sure there will be a branch or a build where Internal Renderer is still incorporated with the latests updates. It probably just won't be maintained.
same here, i always use internal. primarily because it's faster.
There is an upside and a downside to using either engine, why remove one ?
Hi poifox. Its marked as fan art because i originaly put my logo on - http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4641/finalgrasstweaked.png In the fan art section says - Check yes if your blend features company logos.
Some grass I made in cycles a while back: http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/59547
I don't want so sound like the bad guy here. But it looks more like green fur than grass to me. :/ No hard feelings, just saying!
you're right izuzf but sometimes you may want / require a more cartoon-look and not too realistic because it may not fit the scene otherwise. kind of like Big Buck Bunny or something lol
You can achieve super photorealism with blender's internal render! If you look at Andrew Prices Nature Academy you'll see ultimate photorealism in hard to make nature renders made with internal all day long.
Very cool! The internal is still pretty good for the grass shots, and other things as well :)
Thanks nickbrunner2013! Internal can achieve the same results as cycles, it just needs complicated materials for photorealistic pics.
I do quite enjoy seeing that others stay with internal (Tried cycles and although it has some nice features internal is superior imo)
Internal is good to keep, but it's slower, imho, on 2.6x. If it is phased out i will always have a copy of an older version on my system. Simple.
have been training to model grasses all these months, thanks , it looks nature !
Thank you a lot for doing it in the internal renderer, coz the cycles doesn't seems to export the material data in the mtl file. Thinking for using it in my game, if you permit me.
You know Internal Render will be Droped in the Future ? it wont be there anymore away forever :D
I'll move on :) and if i want to will go back to older versions of Blender.
hmmm... if internal isn't supported anymore, i will stop using blender in all. all my models are created in internal blender, and i haven't heard of a way to convert them to cycles. and i can't afford to start from scratch again... is there something like a "internal blender to cycles converter"? if yes, where can i find this? thanx
i don't know. but i heard internal was discontinued in i think 2010. you can still use it though
HOW long did this take?? Could someone who has a modest computer make an animation with this?? It's just gonna be a cube rolling down a hill
A cube rolling down a hill wouldn't take that long. But it's going to take a while to render no matter the PC. What really takes ages are characters.
can you please if not already make a tutorial video on how to make grass like that i have really been struggling with it
Darth, this is incredible. Glad to see not everyone has turned to the "Cycles" side.
