Description:

Here is a futuristic combat jet i have designed, modeled, textured, rigged and animated for our game-project.

I inserted control bones for the easy control of the moving parts of the plane,

as you can see in this gif animation.

<img src="http://3dartdh.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/futuristic-combat-jet-gif22.gif?w=480" alt="" width="921" height="614" />

All animations are controlled by only one action, its the same method as i used for the hand model rig.

Armature control:

Select the special shaped bone, hit the S-Key and then move the mouse, to roll the animation.

<img src="http://3dartdh.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/how-to-setup-custom-bone-shapes.jpg?w=917" alt="" width="917" height="520" />

Here is a small tutorial about how to setup custom Bone Shapes.

I made this tutorial, because i was asked where to find the arrows with the ball inside :)

    how do you use the bones to control the animations is there a special mode or tool?

    Written April 18, 2013

    3DHaupt

    There is no special mode or tool just one action, some TrackTo and a lot of Action constraints for the Bones, all possible animations are saved in one action (Aircraft_roll) and the animations are driven by constraints. When you scaling one of those control-bones, the animation will be played for all bones with the action constraints which have been assigned to the control-bone. Check all green bones, i take a while to understand how it works but it is an awesome way to animate.

    I move the amature bones with bone-constraints and an action where the animations are saved in (Aircraft_roll).

    In this scene is a sun-light with [sky] enabled, select the sun-light and deactivate [sky], the background color you want to use will be rendered correctly.

    Nice! One question though, is there a way to move the whole model at once?

    Hi Narrow Edge, I never moved the whole model.

    I tried to move it and have seen what happens, some parts of the jet were not parented.

    Now I have fixed it, I added two empty objects to move the whole model at once.
