I just did this with Inkskape and Blender. Enjoy!
Camera should be orthographic and set scale to "n"(any number you like) Then array your obj(which is on0,0,0) to the left, right, up, and down with "n". Use only "constant offset" on array. This is intuitive cuz your obj stay in middle but it gets waisted arrays.(could be just 2 arrays). I hope this helps.
Cheers. Having experimented with an Inkscape-to-Blender design of my own I totally get it now.

Thank you so much for this, Dejan. I was looking for a pattern to put on a wall of bevelled tiles and this suits me fine. I changed the colour a few times to get different results and applied lighting to get a shine.
I love the method you used to create the pattern.
It really does tile properly. Any tips as to how you managed that?
Thanks for sharing.
