While modelling the room around me I took a photo of the floor and made it a tileable texture. Plugging this into a Cycles material node graph creates a good looking floor that behaves very similarly to the real thing.

Like the look of the polished wooden floor. Tried it awhile back using a test build of cycles. Didn't turn out to good. Guess the cycles render has improved greatly based on what you've done. I'll try it again. Kudos!!!!
