Description:

This is the whippet model used for a Mother's day card, found at the link below. Specifically, this is roughly what I expect our new puppy to look like once she is grown up, based on the markings currently visible. These are some renders the model has been used in:

This was originally made to be a background character, but general levels of detail are still high. This being said, details like teeth and more accurate paws are lacking. It's also worth mentioning that yes, the eye is a bit off and certainly a bit creepy. Mesh deformation works quite well given the low-poly figure is preserved underneath the multi-resolution. There is an IK setup for the front two legs, but because of the somewhat odd bone structure of this breed it does not immediately work very well; the download will have this constraint disabled or "hidden" in favor of FK posing.

On a final note, it might be worth looking at the node setup for the body of the dog. While the UV layout itself might not be the most efficient, the second texture is somewhat cleverly used for turning this one shader into 3 different materials, with continuous boundary transitions.

Moo-Ack!

This is really good. However, looking at my own whippet, the neck looks just a little bit too thick, and the head a little bit too small. Other than that, this model is amazing.

Good call, I tend to agree. I used full reference for the side, so I'm not sure why the head is small (thought it could just be due to the juxtaposition with a thick neck), but indeed I didn't have a side reference to match and I'm nowhere near my pets to actually check for myself. If I end up using this for a future project, I'll post an update that's hopefully more physically correct :)

I just used the whippet model in another quick edit. I did a little more work on the neck and some muscle details on the front and back-sides, but I won't get to uploading an update until there are some proper details on the mouth like whiskers and actual teeth. Deformations are a little hard to deal with in the extreme poses like below, so hopefully that will improve too!

Very nice. Even if it does have a few flaws it's better than what I can do at the moment. I hope to learn from it if you don't mind. :D
