So yesterday I received a notice that SlykDrako had uploaded the model Lambreta XP70 Rendered With Cycles upon looking at the preview I decided to download this model cause it looked very nice (and it is). But once I downloaded the model, I was struck by something I found much more intriguing than the modeling work, texture, lighting or rendering. What really caught my attention was the great structure of the uploaded file. After you unzip this file here is what you will see.

Now lets look at this a little bit. Not only did SlykDrako, give us the amazing blend, but in the zip file he included a .txt file that stated the licensing for the model. So in a year after you've downloaded it you still know what license you have to comply too.

He's also added a a folder containing all of the textures used in the model, now he could of packed these also but this works too. But he didn't stop there. If you open up either of the .blend files one of the first things you will notice is he has also set his blend up to display he licensing in the blend itself.

So really no matter how much time goes by from when you download this file to when you open it again, you will always know who created it and what licensing you have to use when using this file. Now I would love to be able to make this type of structure mandatory for all uploads, unfortunately, we don't have the time or resources to check every incoming file and enforce this as a rule.
Looking at it from an artist myself though, I know going forward all my files uploaded to Blend Swap will have this file structure. Why? Because it ensures that people who have or will download my blends will have no excuse to use it in the way that I want them to. I would suggest that you all do the same.
SlykDrako, thank you for not only uploading an amazing model, but for showing us the light on how WE ALL should structure our uploads to Blend Swap.
